Scott Rogers er gestalistamaður Gilfélagsins í janúar 2009. Eftirfarandi texti erum hann og hans verk.

Ég er kanadískur listamaður sem er einnig sýningarstjóri og skrifar um list. Verk mín eru margbreytileg, en einblína gjarnan á staðbundna starfssemi, samvinnu og íhugul hugmynda verk. Mörg verk mín eru skammvinn, þau fela í sér tímabundnar athafnir í bæði almennu umhverfi og sýningum. Þessar athafnir taka á sig form skúlptúra, gjörninga, teikninga, margfeldni, ljósmynda og texta-byggðra verka. Stundum nota ég video, PowerPoint og myndvarpa einnig. Í starfi mínu hef ég áhuga á að rannsaka leiðir til sköpunar og semja um merkingu út frá tilviljunarkenndu efni, með því að vekja upp samtal í gegnum list og þar með þróa aðstæður og umhverfi sem gefa leyfi á félagslega og pólitíska gagnrýni.
Ég nota húmor, lágstemmda fagurfræði og blöndu af popp-menningu, listsögulegar og heimspekilegar tengingar til að festa í sessi þessa ramma. Ég eyði miklum tíma í að skipta um skoðun.



Scott hefur nýlega sýnt í ,,The New Gallery (Calgary), Eastern Edge Gallery (St. John's), Rock Paper Scissors (Oakland), The University of Lethbridge og við TULCA hátíðina (Galway, Írland). Komandi sýningar hans eru í Eyelevel Gallery (Halifax,), Galerie Sans Nom (Moncton) og Stride Gallery (Calgary).
Hann tók þátt nýlega í ,, Reverse Pedagogy Thematic Residency" gestadvöl á vegum Banaff Centre (Kanada) og mun vera gestalistamaður Pilotprojekt Gropiusstadt (Berlín, Þýskalandi) í febrúar 2009. Hann er stofnmeðlimur í Arbour Lake Sghool (Listasamstarfshópur í úthverfum Galgary, Kanada) og er sýningarstjóri ásamt Jason de Haan í Pocket Project, sem er frumkvöðlastarfsem snýst um það að gefa listamönnum margþætt umboðs verkefni.

Scott Rogers is the guest artist of the Gil Society in January 2009.
The following text is of his work and career.

I am a Canadian visual artist, who also writes about art and curates. My work is widely divergent, but is generally concerned with site-specific activities, collaborations and speculative conceptual projects. Many of my works are ephemeral, incorporating temporary gestures in both public and exhibition settings. These gestures take the form of sculptures, performances, drawings, multiples, photos and text-based work. Sometimes I use video, PowerPoint and projections as well. Within my practice I am interested in investigating ways of creating and negotiating meaning from essentially random material, in provoking dialogue and discussion through art and in developing platforms which allow for social or political critique. I use humour, lo-fi aesthetics and a mixture of pop cultural, art historical and philosophical references to establish these frameworks. I spend a lot of time changing my mind.



Scott has recently exhibited at The New Gallery (Calgary), Eastern Edge Gallery (St. John's), Rock Paper Scissors (Oakland), The University of Lethbridge and the TULCA Festival (Galway, Ireland). His upcoming exhibitions include shows at Eyelevel Gallery (Halifax), Galerie Sans Nom (Moncton) and Stride Gallery (Calgary). He recently participated in the Reverse Pedagogy Thematic Residency at the Banff Centre (Canada) and will be an artist-in-residence at Pilotprojekt Gropiusstadt (Berlin) in February 2009. He is a founding member of the Arbour Lake Sghool (a collaborative art group in the suburbs of Calgary) and is the co-curator with Jason de Haan of Pocket Projects, an initiative which commissions artist multiples.
