New Nordic Animal Art í Kaktus
Group exhibition by Jónína Mjöll Þormóðsdóttir, Ingrid Elsa Maria Ogenstedt and Arne Rawe
The newest phase of Nordic animal art is characterised by not having any stylised and interwoven animals into any kind of patterns. There are no decorative objects having no purpose other than to display their ornamentation. No everyday idea is elaborately and unrestrainedly decorated.
Interlace in digital modern day communication, where it occurs, becomes less regular and more complex, and if not three-dimensional human beings are usually seen in profile but twisted, exaggerated, surreal, with fragmented body parts filling every available space, creating an intense detailed energetic feel.
But there occur the so-called gripping beast which is a roaring beast with surface ornamentation in the form of interwoven animals that twist and turn as they are gripping and snapping. The absence of an union of animal forms and interlace pattern will be generally accepted as an independent style in the future.
